Vera “Dee” Clayton age 67 of Bunkie

Memorial services for Vera Clayton will be Saturday, May 9, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Melancon Funeral Home, Bunkie.

Ms. Vera “Dee” Clayton was born on November 4, 1947 in Bunkie, Louisiana to Mr. Norwood Clayton, Sr. and Mrs. Doris Clayton-Boudreaux. She passed away in her residence on Thursday, May 7, 2015.

During her early years, Vera loved to dance and be the “life of the party”. Her educational background included but was not limited to attending Carver High School (Bunkie, Louisiana), Louisiana Technical College (Opelousas, Louisiana) and The Police Academy.

During her lifetime Vera was employed as a Warden by The Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Department for many years. She also worked as a receptionist for Judge Kerry Spruill until she retired after becoming ill.

Vera was a loving sister, aunt, daughter, godmother and loyal friend. She was well known and loved in Avoyelles Parish. She loved cats, Coca Cola, and shopping!! She had a large variety of shoes and clothes!!! Vera was friendly and outspoken and although she was not the oldest, the way she cared for her family made it seem as though she was! She became less outspoken and a little quieter and to herself after she became ill, but she did not let it steal her joy, love, peace and faith! She attended Christ Temple under the leadership of Bishop Johnny Leary.

Vera was preceded in death by her father, Norwood Clayton, Sr., her mother, Doris Clayton-Boudreaux, two (2) brothers, Norwood Clayton, Jr. and Irvin Clayton, and a step-sister, Rita Boudreaux.
