Merine Guillot Laborde, of Marksville, passed away at Forest Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Covington, LA on August 4, 2015 at 7:34pm at the age of 89.

Merine is predeceased by her husband, Marsden Joseph Laborde; her son, Glenn Michael Laborde and her siblings Vernon Guillot, Effie Kelly and Oran Guillot. 

Merine is lovingly remembered by son, Dwight Luke Laborde of Madisonville, grandchildren , Glynis A. Laborde, Basil AlQudwa, Daniel J. Laborde, Kimberly Laborde Heimbach, Gwendolyn Laborde Waite, Justin L. Laborde and Lucus M. Laborde, great-grandchildren ,Dustin and Austin Paris, Jake Johnson, Hytham, Mariam and Jada AlHussieni, Savannah and Talan Laborde.

Merine was born in Fifth Ward on May 3, 1926. She graduated from Fifth Ward High School in 1944 and went on to earn a Cosmotology degree from Alexandria Beauty Academy in 1945. She was the owner operator of Merine’s Beauty Shop that has been in operation for the last 69 years. 

Merine enjoyed traveling, sewing, spending time with her loved ones and most of all, playing the cherry slot machines.

The visitation will be held at Hixson Brothers Funeral Home, 445 W. Bontemps St., Marksville, LA on Thursday, August 6, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. and will resume on Friday, from 8:00 a.m. until shortly before the time of services. 

Prayers will be offered and a rosary will be recited in the Chapel of Hixson Brothers at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. 

The funeral service will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 141 S. Washington St., Marksville, LA on Friday, August 7, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with Father Brian Seiler officiating. Entombment to follow at St. Joseph Mausoleum #2. Arrangements are under the direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Marksville.
