Judge David Irvin Couvillion age 80 of Baton Rouge

A retired federal tax judge and resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana David Irvin Couvillion died on October 17, 2015.  He was a native of Simmesport, Louisiana. Visitation will be at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East 11000 Florida Blvd. Tuesday, October 20, 2015, starting at 5:00pm until 8:00pm.  Visitation will resume at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, Wednesday, October 21, 2015, beginning at 9:00am until Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am conducted by Rev. Cleo Milano followed by interment in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. He is survived by his brother, Gaston Louis Couvillion and wife, Lily and his sister, Narcille Couvillion Lorio.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Jervais Forrest Couvillion and Leontine Rabalais Couvillion and by siblings, Ferdinand Rabalais Couvillion, Isabel Couvillion, Esla Josephine Couvillion, Eleanor Magdalen Couvillion, Bernice Rose Couvillion, Marion Alfred Couvillion, Aaron Bernard Couvillion, James Warren Couvillion, and Jervais Forrest Couvillion, Jr.  He was a special trial judge on the United States Tax Court.  He was appointed to that position by the Chief Judge of the U.S. Tax Court on July 1, 1985 where he served until his retirement in 2008.  Prior to his lengthy service on the Tax Court, he engaged in tax litigation in Baton Rouge, Louisiana for a decade. Before entering private practice, he had been an Administrative Assistant to U.S. Representative Speedy O. Long, from Louisiana's Eighth District from 1966-73.  Judge Couvillion earned his B.S. in Accounting from Louisiana State University, 1956; a J.D. from Louisiana State University Law School, 1959; and an LL.M. in Taxation from Georgetown University Law Center, Washington, D.C., 1973.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. James Place Retirement Community, Hospice of Baton Rouge and the LSU Foundation.  The family would like to extend special thanks to the St. James Place companions, especially Casey Terry and Chanel Rodgers.
