Remembering Katrina .....

Some people read history, some people study history and some people live history. We are looking for those people who lived history 10 years ago when this nation’s deadliest hurricane struck Louisiana and sent about 1 million of its citizens running northward to safety.
Many of those refugees found shelter and help in Avoyelles Parish. We want to share your story with the current generation of Avoyelleans and provide that “personal touch” to a story many may only be aware of through history books.
If you came to Avoyelles as a refugee from Hurricane Katrina, or know of someone who did, please email news@avoyelles.com or bunkierecord@yahoo.com “Attn: Hurricane Katrina families,” text information or photos to (318) 305-8170 or call us at 253-5413 before noon Monday so we can include your story in an article for the Aug. 27 editions of the Weekly News and Bunkie Record.
Hurricane Katrina is certainly not an event to be celebrated, but it is an event to be remembered -- both for the tragedy that it caused and for the heroism and spirit of brotherhood that it brought out in the people of this parish and this state.
Please help us remember.
