Franklin “Bo” Sylvia of Pineville carries a cross on Tunica Drive in Marksville as a silent witness to others that Christ endured much more pain and grief for us than what we may be going through personally. Sylvia has been doing this for about two years, ever since he says God gave him a second chance and spared his young son in a serious auto accident. {Photo by Raymond L. Daye}

Man carries cross to remind of God’s grace

    He didn’t heed what he says were very obvious signs from God that he should not take his son with him in the truck.
   “I took him anyway,” Franklin “Bo” Sylvia said. “We had a wreck.  I flipped the truck. I was in a coma.
  “God protected my son and he was not injured,” Sylvia continued. “He gave me a second chance and I do not intend to waste it.”
  Sylvia, who lives in Pineville and attends St. Rita Catholic Church in Alexandria, now periodically carries a cross through the streets of towns and cities in Louisiana as a silent testimony to the grace and goodness of God.
  “I do this to help others and to spread the news about the goodness of God,” he said. “It shows what Christ did for us is far greater than what we are going through today or what we may be going through personally.”
   Sylvia said he chooses a town that he feels led to walk in “and I carry the cross through that town for as long as I believe I need to.”
