Avoyelles Police Jury appoints new secretary/treasurer

Honors retiring administrators

It was an emotional farewell as Tina Lemoine accepted a plaque of appreciation at her last meeting as Police Jury secretary-treasurer.
“She has been our keystone,” jury President Charles Jones told the audience at a special jury meeting last Thursday.  Turning to Lemoine, he added, “We will miss you.”
Wiping a tear away, Lemoine said, “I’ve loved working with this jury.”
Lemoine has been secretary/treasurer for six years and has worked for the Police Jury for 13. She has retired to become primary caregiver for her elderly mother.
There were smiles and congratulations for Jamey Miller Wiley, who will be leaving her position with the district attorney’s office and Assistant District Attorney Norris Greenhouse’s office to fill Lemoine’s term as  secretary/treasurer, which expires Jan. 12, 2016.
Wiley will begin her duties at the Police Jury in about two weeks.
She and husband Toby live in Marksville and have two teenaged daughters. She is the daughter of Tina Miller and the late Gilbert Miller of Marksville.
Housing Choice Voucher Program Director Kathy Reynaud was also thanked for her 15 years of service and presented a plaque of appreciation.  She resigned to take a position in another agency. Her position was filled by Brittney Covington, who was transferred from the Avoyelles Permit Office to become temporary director of the HCV program.
Parish Maintenance Superintendent Anzell Jones was not at the meeting. His last day as superintendent was the next day.
However, the new acting superintendent was present. Keith Greenhouse was given the promotion from assistant superintendent to superintendent in a previous special meeting.
“This is a job Keith has done before,” Jones said, referring to his temporary assumption of duties while Anzell Jones was on medical leave. “The only difference is, this time we’re paying him to be superintendent. He’ll get the pay that goes with the job,’ he added with a laugh.
Greenhouse lives in Marksville and is the father of seven children.
Jurors paid for the appreciation plaques out of their own pockets.
The Police Jury was expected to be asked to accept Police Juror Sam Piazza’s resignation and appoint an interim juror to fill the seat until after the fall election.
Piazza was unable to attend the meeting, but Jones said he had talked to the juror who had decided to remain in the position until after a new juror is elected in the fall.
