Alexandria Man Killed in Crash

Late last night, a single vehicle crash killed a man from Alexandria, LA.

Troopers responded to the crash around 10:50 p.m., which occurred on LA Hwy 496 west of LA Hwy 3054.  The crash involved a 2001 Mazda 626, driven by Joshua Peter Marquis (B/M 32 yrs).  The Mazda was westbound on LA Hwy 496 when Marquis lost control and exited the right side of the roadway.  After exiting the roadway, the vehicle collided with a tree.

Marquis was wearing his seat belt, but was pronounced dead.

Routine toxicology tests are pending.  The crash remains under investigation.

Although the exact cause of the crash remains under investigation, Troopers would like to remind the public of the following: speeding reduces a driver’s ability to steer safely around curves or objects in the roadway, extends the distance necessary to stop a vehicle, and increases the distance a vehicle travels while the driver reacts to a situation.  Speeding and other aggressive driving behaviors are among the leading causes of highway crashes and fatalities.

While not all crashes are survivable, seat belts can greatly decrease the occupant’s chance of death and will greatly reduce the extent of injury.

Troop E Troopers have investigated 23 fatal crashes in 2015, resulting in 28 fatalities.
