Academic Signing Day program held at Marksville High

A different type of celebration was held in the gymnasium of Marksville High School on April 30 when 29 seniors were recognized for signing commitments to attend various universities, technical colleges or the U.S. military.
“I wanted to celebrate the students who have made a commitment to furthering their education/career or have pledged to serve our country,” Assistant Principal Roxana Butler said. Butler organized the event. “By hosting positive events such as this one, younger students at Marksville High will be encouraged to succeed and hopefully they will follow in these students’ footsteps.” 
Shantella Barton, whose daughter, Laken Barton, participated in the event said the event “made me extremely proud to see Marksville High School recognizing students for their academic achievements and encouraging students to set goals that will further enhance their futures.” 
The following students participated and were recognized at the event: Louisiana National Guard- Antonio Alexander, Bryce Turnage and Deven Crooks; Louisiana Tech University- Deondre Pierite, Blake McGehee, Keveric Dupas, Dorian Campbell and Antonio Alexander; Louisiana State University at Eunice- Brionna Napoleon, Lorielle Greenhouse and Te’Ericka Ball; Northwestern State University- Andre Boyer, Quasha Blue (not pictured), Darielle Channel, Brikeysha Duskin and Kamryn Guilbeaux; Louisiana State University at Alexandria-Holly Laprarie and Laken Barton; Central Louisiana Technical Community College- Nicholas Barbin (not pictured); McNeese State University- Artensia Batiste; Ernest P.
