16 Year Old Dies in Head-On Crash in Pointe Coupee Parish

New Roads, LA – Shortly after 3:00 pm on August 18, 2016, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two vehicle fatality crash on LA 1 south of LA 3131 (Hospital Rd.) in Pointe Coupee Parish. The crash took the life of 16 year old Nicholas Doucet of Morganza, LA.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as 17 year old Harlee Doucet of Morganza, LA was traveling northbound on LA 1 in a 2003 Toyota Corolla. At the same time, 46 year old Amy Self was traveling southbound on LA 1 in a 2014 Ford Expedition. Doucet began to pass another northbound vehicle and collided head-on with Self’s vehicle in the southbound lane.

Nicholas Doucet, the brother of Harlee Doucet, was the front seat passenger in the Corolla. He was properly restrained but sustained fatal injuries in the crash. Harlee Doucet, along with two other juvenile passengers in the vehicle, sustained moderate injuries. Self and a juvenile passenger in her vehicle sustained moderate injuries in the crash. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in this crash, but a toxicology sample will be taken from both drivers for analysis.

This crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.

Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that while not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death.
