Fifth Ward man arrested after shooting his brother and another man on Thursday evening

Loud music at a Fifth Ward residence led to a man shooting his brother and another man on Thursday evening, April 30.
Joey Darbonne, 62, of 221 German Bayou Road in Fifth Ward, was arrested and charged with two counts of attempted 1st-degree murder in connection with the shotgun shooting.
Dwight Darbonne, 55, -- the suspect’s brother and neighbor -- and Coty Bernard, 24, were both struck in the head and upper body by shotgun pellets after Joey Darbonne allegedly  became upset by “loud music” at his brother’s home and fired several shots from a 12 gauge shotgun at a group of people at the victim’s house.
The shooting occurred at about 9 p.m., Sheriff Doug Anderson said.
Both gunshot victims were treated at the scene by Acadian Ambulance attendants. Dwight Darbonne was transported by helicopter to an Alexandria hospital  where he was in stable condition Friday morning, Anderson added.
Deputies went to the house at 237 German Bayou Road after receiving reports of gunshots being fired. Joey Darbonne was arrested at the scene and booked into Avoyelles Detention Center #1 in Marksville. No bond had been set as of Friday morning.
