Possible pipe bomb discovered at home near Hessmer

UPDATE: As of 640 p.m. law enforcement and emergency crews are leaving the home. According to eye witnesses in the community, the incident started around 130 p.m. A bomb squad was called in and the device was detonated in a controlled manner by the squad.

People of interest were taken into custody by law enforcement concerning the incident. One witness indicated four people were taken into custody.

No official statement by the APSO or other agencies is expected tonight. No injuries or evacuations were reported. .

According to reports, Avoyelles Parish Sheriffs Office, La state police, ATF and FBI are at a home on Percy Aymond Road between Bunkie and Hessmer investigating a suspected pipe bomb being found.

Officers and emergency personnel are currently on the scene.

No other details are available at this time. No other reports concerning the incident are expected tonight. Law enforcement agencies encourage the public not to go near the scene. As of 630 p.m. no evacuations of the nearby homes and structures have been issued.
