Margaret Ann Gober Hayes, age 75, of Waco, Texas

Margaret Ann Gober Hayes, 75, of Waco, passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2015, at a local hospital. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 1312 Dallas Street, Waco, with Father Cyril Ejaidu as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Doris Miller Cemetery. Rosary Service will be at 6 p.m. Friday at OakCrest Funeral Home, lead by the Knights of Peter Claver Ladies Auxiliary Court 385.

Margaret Ann Gober was born July 5, 1939 in Denton, TX to Faye Gober. She professed her faith in Christ at St. John Catholic Church in 1952. She graduated from Moore High where she was a majorette in 1957. In 1957 she married the love of her life Freeman Hayes, and together they raised their daughters and played a role in the upbringing of many others.

She was a mother, mentor, and friend to everyone who was blessed to have known her. She left her mark in many communities through her tireless service as a volunteer Girl Scout Leader, and church leader. She was a resident of Cottonport from 1979-2012. After 34 years she returned to Waco and continued her work as a leader in the Catholic Church through the Lady’s Auxiliary. Her work had only just begun with the youth of the church.

Preceding her in death is her mother, Faye Myrtle Gober; brother, Charles Wesley Gober Jr.; and sisters, Nancy Gober-Belk, Anell Wilkerson, and Bonnie Beal.

She leaves to cherish her memory a devoted husband of 57 years Freeman Hayes, her daughters Vernessa White of Washington, Regina Thomas (Paul), of Waco, TX, Andra Hayes of McGregor, TX, Tiffany Hayes of Sasebo, Japan and daughter of her heart Faye Stewart of Waco, TX; Sisters Catherine Broady and Brenda Jolly of Waco, TX, Martha Allen of Zion, IL, and lifelong friend and sister of her heart Juliet “Sue” Hall; Grandchildren Candace Thomas of Houston, TX, and Charles Young of Arlington, TX; Great grand children Kyra and Kylie Young of McGregor, TX; Sisters in law Rachel Connor (Steve) of Missouri City, TX, Elsie Hayes of Port Arthur, TX , and Wareen Hayes of Port Arthur, TX and brothers in law Carl Wilkerson (Alice) of Alexandria, LA, Louis Hayes (Yolanda) of Ecuador, and Lyman Hayes of Evergreen, LA, Goddaughter Ashane Stewart of Denton, TX and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

Pallbearers will be Marcus Wilkerson Sr., Charles Young, Rynnie Antoine , Rodney Gober, Randy Gober Jr., and Robert Young. Honorary Pallbearers will be Henry Wilkerson Jr., Randy Gober Sr., Kevin Gober Sr., Derrick Wilkerson Sr., Stephen Connor, and Paul Thomas
