Suspected "Molotov cocktail" found at Dupont Post Office

A suspected “Molotov cocktail” was found at the U.S. Post Office in Dupont Thursday afternoon.

Avoyelles Parish Chief Deputy Steve Martel said the object was found and precautions were taken, including calling in the State Police explosives unit and blocking the roads around the Post Office.

State Police took possession of the item and will properly destroy it. The incident is still under investigation by APSO and State Police. School buses and other traffic were redirected while officers investigated the scene.

Martel said the “all-clear” was given by State Police at 3:55 p.m. and all roads were re-opened.

A Molotov cocktail is a crude bomb usually made by filling a breakable container with gasoline or other flammable liquid and having a cloth wick leading into the container. The wick is lit and the container is then thrown at its target.
