Suspect in Bunkie stabbing arrested in Cottonport

A Bunkie man sought in connecting with a Wednesday night stabbing incident was arrested Thursday afternoon.

Matthew Thomas Clark, 26, of Bunkie was arrested at a Cottonport home by Avoyelles Sheriff’s deputies and booked into Avoyelles Detention Center #1 on charges of attempted 2nd-degree murder. He was in jail under $150,000 bond Thursday. Clark is accused of  stabbing Arturo Valdez,  of Bunkie, during what officers believe was a fight over money.

Clark fled the Bunkie house where the incident occurred and was sought over night as a fugitive.

Valdez sustained a serious wound and was in stable condition in an area hospital Thursday, Sheriff Doug Anderson said.
