Murder suspect caught in Simmeport murder

Simmesport Police and Avoyelles Parish Sheriff's Office with help from the Louisiana State Police captured Farron Gaspard on Monday morning at 11:25 a.m. at his mother's home on South Main Street in Marksville. He was wanted for the Sunday evening murder of his wife, Verna Gaspard, 64. Police, allegedly, shot tear gas into the home to make him surrender.
Verna Gaspard was found dead inside the couple's home in Simmesport from a gunshot wound. Police started searching for the husband, Farron Gaspard, 59, and allegedly found his vehicle abandon in Marksville in the South Washington Street area. An arrest warrant has been issued for Farran Gaspard for first degree murder.
Verna Gaspard was the nursing supervisor at the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff's Office.
She had a protective order against her husband, signed by Kerry Spruill, on November 3 and the order was still active until November 2016. The couple had been estranged for the last few months.
He was arrested on domestic abuse charges on October 19. He was charged with domestic abuse battery, false imprisonment and simple assault.
