Car chase ends in Bunkie on Tuesday afternoon

On Tuesday afternoon, July 26, law enforcement agencies from two parishes were involved in a car chase that ended on the streets of Bunkie. The chase started just before 1 p.m. and ended at 1:16 p.m.
The chase started on U.S. Highway 71 in St. Landry Parish south of Bunkie. St. Landry Sheriff’s Office had pulled a car over for a traffic violation. The driver of the car then sped away as the St. Landry deputy approached the vehicle.
The chase continued into Avoyelles Parish at 1:04 p.m. where the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office and Louisiana State Police joined in the chase. Bunkie Police started with the chase once it reached the city limits.
The driver, who is unknown at this time, started going through the streets of Bunkie before giving up at the corner of Rose and Sewell Street at 1:16 p.m.
The driver could be facing numerous charges in St. Landry Parish, Avoyelles Parish and in Bunkie.
During the chase, an unrelated vehicle hit a St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s unit on the corner of McArthur and Holly Street. There were no reports of injuries in the accident.
