Avoyelles Police Jury still facing troubled waters over bridges

By Raymond L. Daye There’s a lot of water under Avoyelles Parish bridges, but not a lot of forgiving going on these days. Residents on the “wrong side” of Chuck Davis Bridge on Spring Bayou were extremely upset by the closing of that bridge Feb. 26 and with the progress of repairs since then.Mother Nature didn’t help matters, with heavy rains March 1-2 and more bad weather March 5. “The Police Jury told us they couldn’t work on the bridge because of the mud,” resident Keith Manuel said. “But the mud causing the problem is the two loads of dirt they dumped on either end of the bridge when they closed it.” Manuel said he and other residents have to walk across a makeshift foot bridge to get to and from their vehicles, which they have parked on the town-side of the bridge.
