Escapee recaptured in Crowley

Kevin Wilson, an Avoyelles Detention Center-Bunkie inmate who escaped Wednesday afternoon, was captured in Crowley early Thursday morning, Sheriff Doug Anderson said.

Wilson, 22, of Crowley, was in the parish facility awaiting a charge of second-degree battery in Acadia Parish.
Anderson said Wilson was present for the 3:30 p.m.  count but was missing at the 5:30 p.m. check. He said the facility was thoroughly searched after Wilson was discovered missing. At 8 p.m. a person from Acadia Parish called and told a deputy that he had seen Wilson in Crowley.
“We notified Acadia Sheriff’s Office and they apprehended him at about 1 a.m. Thursday morning,” Anderson said.
The sheriff said an investigation of the escape determined that Wilson “slipped out with a work release crew. He told the guard on duty that he had to go to work and the guard let him go without checking.”  Wilson is not eligible for work release, Anderson said.
The incident is under investigation and the guard will be disciplined, Anderson said.
Wilson was still being held in Crowley today but is expected to be returned to Avoyelles Parish, where he will also face an additional charge of simple escape.
