Cajun Crossroads Festival set for Friday and Saturday in Hessmer

The 2nd annual Cajun Crossroads Festival will kick off at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 6, and continue with a fun-filled day of activities on Saturday, May 7. The event will be held at the village of Hessmer’s Ronald Mayeux Ballpark Complex.
“It is a great family fun weekend with proceeds going to help support the kids in our local community,” Hessmer Sports Club President Shawn Gagnard said. “We invite everyone to come out and have a great time.”
The proceeds of the event go to support the Hessmer Sports Club, which sponsors the Little League program in Hessmer.
Baseball is a key element in the festival. The event begins on Friday night with the beginning of the adult T-ball tournament. There will also be food vendors, arts and crafts booths and a DJ to provide musical entertainment.
The T-ball tournament continues at 9 a.m. on Saturday. The various vendor booths will be open and there will be inflatable jumps for the young festival-goers.
A BBQ cook-off, with four categories, will begin at 10 a.m. Area backyard chefs will compete in the categories of brisket, chicken, pork steak and pork ribs.
A DJ will provide music from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Special musical guest, the Cartoons, will take the stage from 8-11 p.m.
There will be a fireworks display shortly after dark.
Gagnard said there is still time for teams to register to participate in the T-ball tournament and in the BBQ cook-off.
