Marksville City Marshal Voinche releases statement on Nov. 3 shooting

Ward 2/ Marksville City Marshal Floyd Voinche Sr. released a brief statement concerning the Nov. 3 fatal shooting involving three part-time deputy marshals. The statement provides no new information and reiterates Voinche's previously stated position that any information on the issue will be provided by State Police investigators.

The full statement is as follows:

November 3, 2015, three part-time deputy ward marshals were involved in a tragic incident where a minor died and Chris Few was injured. All three of the deputy ward marshals are POST-certified and are full-time employees of other law enforcement agencies. Further, pursuant to LSA-RS 13:1881, the deputy ward marshals were empowered to write traffic tickets, make arrests and preserve the peace.

Shortly after the incident occurred, the Louisiana State Police began its investigation of the facts and circumstances of the incident. I have fully cooperated with that investigation and have spoken with Louisiana state troopers on several occasions, during which conversations I answered all questions asked. I have full confidence in the Louisiana State Police and its investigation and I intend to continue to cooperate, going forward.

Because this matter is under investigation, no further information will be provided by this office until the findings of the Louisiana State Police are released. I want to assure the citizens of Marksville and Ward 2 that my office will continue to provide the services and meet the duties required by law.

Signed -- Floyd Voinche Sr., City of Marksville and Ward 2 Marshal
