STEPSCenla second annual 5K Color Run to be held Sept. 17

The STEPScenla 5K Color Run will start at 8 a.m. this Saturday (Sept. 17) in downtown Marksville.

STEPS stands for “Striving to Ensure Pediatric Survival.” The event is a fundraiser to aid local and area children with terminal or catastrophic illnesses, and to assist their families. It also benefits St. Jude Research Hospital.

Ag agencies expect bad news for parish crops

Farmers in Avoyelles have already been dealt a harsh blow by a history-making August rainstorm, but the periodic showers since then have made a bad situation worse.
County Agent Justin Dufour said the LSU AgCenter and other agriculture agencies will be doing a “large and descriptive survey of damages. We will assess the overall damage to crops caused by the flooding.”
