Halloween events set for Sunday and Monday across Avoyelles

It’s Halloween!
Is it just us, or is that a skeletal face at the front left corner of the gallows trapdoor on the 4th Floor of the Avoyelles Parish Courthouse? It’s probably just us.
The place where malefactors were once hanged for their crimes, and this room directly beneath where they took their last steps, is considered to be one of the most haunted places in the parish. {Photo by Raymond L. Daye}

 

Hundreds ‘walk out of darkness’ to support efforts to combat suicide in Avoyelles Parish

Four cadets from the National Guard’s Youth Challenge Program carried the banner to lead the Avoyelles Parish Walk Out of the Darkness to raise awareness of suicide prevention programs. Approximately 600-800 walkers participated in the 5K (3 mile) event. {Photo by Raymond L. Daye}
