Christmas events in Avoyelles, Dec. 8-11

The following is a list of Christmas events in Avoyelles Parish happening this week:
Thursday, December 8
6:30 p.m. Christmas Music Extravaganza
The Christmas Music Extravaganza will be at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 8, at the Fox Theatre at 111 S. Washington Street in Marksville.
The event will feature various performers from across Avoyelles Parish.
Photos with Santa will be available as well as free hot chocolate and cookies. Wine and egg nog will be available to purchase.

Saturday, December 10
1:30 p.m. Hessmer Christmas Parade
The Hessmer Christmas Parade will be at 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 10. The parade will begin at the St. Alphonsus Catholic Church Rateau Center parking lot, then travel east on Main Street and end at the Hessmer school campus complex.

Saturday, December 10, and Sunday, December 11
51st Annual Cottonport Christmas on the Bayou
The Cottonport Christmas Festival Committee invites everyone to participate in the annual parade and fireworks display. Christmas Fireworks on the Bayou will be Saturday, December 10, at 6 p.m. and the Christmas Parade will be Sunday, December 11, at 1 p.m.
Entry fee for floats or trailers is $25; marching units, dancing units, special entry (vehicle or motorcycle) is $15.
Absolutely no 4-wheelers and no horses allowed in parade or around Cottonport city limits.
The town will provide a Santa Claus, please no other Santa Claus entry.
The entries will be judged at 11:30 a.m. on parade route. Winner will be announced for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place trophies and overall trophy will be awarded for the best all around entry in parade. Trophies will be given at the Cotton Queen on Cottonport Avenue at the end of parade.
Bonfires and barbecue pits will not be allowed along the bayou. No alcohol, open container law will be enforced and law enforcement personnel will be on duty.
Entry forms for the parade are available at the Cottonport Town Hall between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 4:25 p.m.

Sunday, December 11
3 p.m- Ward I Children’s Christmas Parade
The Ward One communities will hold a Children’s Christmas Wagon Parade at the Veterans Memorial Walkway in Effie at 3 p.m. on Dec. 11.
Santa will arrive for picture taking, hot chocolate and cookies will be served.
Children ages eight and under with decorated wagons will parade around the walkway.
