‘Catskin’ Game cancelled due to Dist. 3AAA expansion to 8 teams

Marksville and Bunkie will not be playing the traditional “Catskin” game during the 2015 season, so the Jamboree will be their only chance to square off this year. The heated rivalry between Avoyelles High and Bunkie also fell victim to District 3AAA’s realignment, so Friday’s 15-minute mini-game will be their only meeting as well.
Marksville and Avoyelles are both in District 3AAA. That  district increased by two teams this season, leaving only three non-district games. Neither Marksville or Avoyelles was able to schedule Bunkie for one of its first three games.
Marksville Coach J.T. Dunbar said he offered to play the game on any one of those three weeks, but then-Bunkie Coach Kevin Cook refused.
The Catskin Game was set for Week 4 and the Mustang-Panther match was set for Week 5 before required district games took those two schedule dates.
Schedule contracts with non-district teams are made for two years, so the traditional intra-parish game will be on hold until 2017.
