Bordelonville Community Center to be site of St. Peter/St. Michael Church Fair on September 19-20

The St. Peter and St. Michael Church Fair has been scheduled Sept. 19-20 in Bordelonville. This year the fair has been moved from the St. Peter Church grounds to the newly renovated community center (the former Bordelonville High School site). This will be the first activity to be held at the facility renamed the Bordelonville Volunteer Fire Department Training/Community Center.
According to Lauren Bordelon, fair chairman, this new site allows for spacious parking as well as a dedicated handicap parking area.
“The community of Bordelonville had their work cut out for them when the building was purchased on June 17, 2013,” she said. “Immediately after the purchase the citizens of Bordelonville came together for major renovations. Once you visit the fair you will notice all the hard work the community of Bordelonville has put into this site for it to be used as a community center for everyone’s benefit.”
More than 5,000 volunteer hours -- including many by alumni of Bordelonville High -- and thousands of dollars have been spent to renovate this site, Bordelon said.
Local plumbers, electricians and carpenters have brought the site up to approval by the Board of Health. The front portion of the main building was removed creating a large covered pavilion, the interior of the gym has been completely redone and the cafeteria has also been restored to complete functionality.
“There is still much more to accomplish at the old school site,” she said. “There are plans to add a walking track and playground area for the community. The facilities will also be available to be rented for any local events. The site has been recently approved by the State Fire Marshal and ADA approved.”
The fair will begin Saturday after the 4 p.m. Mass, which will be celebrated in the center gymnasium. A variety of food booths will be selling homemade cakes of all kinds, boudin, cracklins, jambalaya, catfish poboys, crawfish pistolettes, egg rolls, hamburgers, french fries, lemonade and nachos. There will be a sweet shoppe and much more.
There will be fun for all ages. Games will be set up in the gymnasium for children to enjoy at a cost of $1 per ticket. There will be bingo at a cost of 50¢ per square or three squares for $1. “The Parish Wide” band will begin playing immediately after the Mass on Saturday.
On Sunday, cochon de lait lunches will be sold for $9 each. Tickets can be purchased at the Moreauville Parts House, His & Hers Hair Salon in Mansura and by calling the rectory at (318) 997-2151.
