Avoyelles escapee recaptured in Abbeville

    Jeremy Fontenot, 44, of Ville Platte, was serving a three-year sentence for a forgery conviction.

   He escaped from his work assignment early Saturday morning. the Avoyelles Sheriff’s Office called Abbeville Police Department to be on the watch for Fontenot.

  Abbeville police found Fontenot walking on a city street. When Fontenot saw the officers, he attempted to flee on foot but he was apprehended.

   Fontenot is being held without bond pending return to Avoyelles Parish. In addition to the remainder of his initial sentence, Fontenot now faces charges of simple escape. A conviction on that charge could add two to five years to his sentence.
