Jena defeats Avoyelles, 35-14; Marksville mauls Vidalia, 43-0; Menard beats Bunkie, 24-7

Avoyelles vs. Jena

Jena continued its steamroller drive to the playoffs Friday night, taking a 35-14 victory over the Avoyelles Mustangs.

The game in Jena was a close 20-14 contest in favor of the Giants at halftime, but the second half was all Jena as the Giants remained undefeated at 8-0 overall and 5-0 in District 3AAA. The win also broke Jena's six-year jinx against the Mustangs.  Avoyelles is now 2-6 overall and 1-4 in district play. Jena faces Peabody Magnet High School next week while Avoyelles hosts the Bolton Bears.

Marksville vs. Vidalia

As anticipated, Friday night's game pitting the Vidalia Vikings against the Marksville Tigers was a "massacre on the Mississippi," with the visitors handing Vidalia a 43-0 beating.

The victory leaves Marksville one game behind Jena in District 3AAA. The Tigers are 5-3 overall and 4-1 in district. Jena is undefeated this year. Vidalia is 2-6 overall and 1-4 in District 3AAA.

Marksville's lone district loss was to Jena last week.

Bunkie vs. Menard

Holy Savior Menard continued its high-flying ways Friday night, downing the Bunkie Panthers, 24-7, in a District 3AA contest that keeps the Eagles in contention for the district title. A loss to the Panthers would have virtually cinched the title for defending state champion Many. Many has already faced and beaten both teams earlier this year and defeated Oakdale Friday night to remain undefeated in 3AA and 7-1 on the year, but has yet to face a very tough Pickering team. Menard is 7-1 and 2-1, with its only loss being to Many.

The loss leaves Bunkie at 5-3 overall. They were 5-0 in the non-district half of the season but have fallen to Many, Pickering and now Menard in the past three weeks.
